Lasik Eye Correction

Lazy eye surgery?

I'm in my early twenties and my eyes don't work together. I was crossed eyes as a young kid...actually one y/o. I had surgery and patches which corrected the crossness of my eyes (originally they were both looking toward my nose). But neither treatments aligned my eyes together to work together. The doctor wanted to do another surgery after the initial one and patches, but I never had that done. Do you think that was to fix the actual alignment? Anyway, if I am looking straight ahead the eyes look aligned together and I can see with binocular vision. But if I look right or left only one eye turns...and like I can actually SEE myself looking straight with one eye and to the left/right with the other. I can control movement of my eyes so they don't "drift" off randomly though...but I'll still be looking straight with one and the side with the other. I'm soo self conscious about it...I heard of adults getting alignment surgery...does it work well? Will it fix alignment of my eyes so that they work together and move in the same direction/same time?

  1. I had lazy eye surgery when I was 5 and 7. Neither one worked. Surgery has come a long way but still a difficult surgery. Talk to different surgeons and see what they can do
  2. I have had a number of surgeries on my eyes. A number of these were for strabismus(lazy eye). Though it is a permanent condition, surgery can help to reduce the noticeability. After my surgery I did notice a difference in the amount that my eyes worked together. There is always a recovery time needed after surgery but I have never had any complications. Talk to your optometrist about getting a referral to a specialist.
  3. I just had my second strabmismus surgery a month ago and what my surgeon did is she left the suture in my eye so that once I was awake and able to use my eye she could adjust the muscle to a perfect fit! It is uncomfortable because they have to leave the suture hanging in your eye for about three weeks but it was totally worth it. I am 19 and I too have had the same experiences with the self consiousness. I am getting married in June and I am no longer worried about how my eye will look in my photographs. As some one with a lazy eye you know how much that means! I HIGHLY recommend it! This was also my second surgery. Its not a cure but it for sure helped!
  4. You may have bilateral Duane's sydrome. This a condition where (usually one) eye cannot be moved laterally; ie., away from the nose.
