Lasik Eye Correction

Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of lasik eye surgery...Is there any one whose had it and your experience.

I've been wearing contacts for about 12 years now and i've noticed my eyesight is deteroriating every year..My doctor said after 25 it will start to slow down. Now i'm wearing glasses more because i believe my contacts have alot to do with my poor vision and the decline in my vision. Is there anyone who has researched lasik surgery and/or has had it that can tell me the risk involved, advantages and difference it's made with their vision. I've spoken to my optomitirist and he states it's realtivly safe with very few side effects except for blurred vision at night. I'm very very farsighted and i basicly need glasses/contacts to see not just read. Any advice or info will be appreciated.

  1. I had i and now in one eye is blind dont do i tell u dont do it
  2. I have been wearing contacts for 9years now, and had poor vision for 12 years. I might suggest you to first get your retina checked if you haven't. My retina was discovered to have holes in some parts of it. It happens to people with poor eyesight and I've learnt that I had to get them checked for every other year. I will be having a laser operation(different than the one to fix eyesight) to fix the holes I have on my retina. I did not have any problems with contact lenses and actually I believe they give me a better sight than glasses.
  3. pros: the vision -- being able to see first thing in the morning is something I'm grateful for even after 7 years cons: not cheap after-surgery discomfort can far range from mild irritation (a feeling like grit in the eye) to outright pain (like having dilation drops put in your eye in a steady stream) with the mild to moderate discomfort being most common glare or star bursts, especially at night. Everybody can expect some at the beginning, but the larger your pupils the greater the chance of them being severe & permanent even after healing, the cornea will not be as strong as it was before, so your risk of eye injury is greater (especially if your into contact sports) you have to do without your contacts for a couple weeks before and without makeup a couple weeks after (even though this is superficial, it can bother some people) in rare cases, worsening of the vision or blindness can occur Overall: I would recommend it. The inconvenience and discomfort of the surgery is well worth the vision you receive (this coming from someone who got the worst of the discomfort and star bursts).
  4. My vision has been changing a lot the past 2 years (I'm 40). I am also thinking of getting it done. I know 5 people that have had the surgery and they are so glad that they did. No complications and their vision is perfect. I just wish it wasn't so expensive.
  5. A coworker had it done & claims its the best thing she's ever done for herself.
  6. Lasik is relatively a very safe procedure which has been performed for nearly a decade. The technology has advanced so much that its now possible to predict the outcome even before laser is done. The pre op Diagnostic Procedures are called as orbscan and abberometry. Lasik procedure takes just 10 mins for both the eyes and you can resume normal activities within 24 hrs. The only disadvantage is the cost of the procedure , but this can be over come when u have the procedure done in countries like India which have very good laser centers and Ophthalmologists. Eye care tourism is becoming very popular and u can save a lot of money. I am an Ophthalmologist specialising in eye care tourism in Chennai India. Dr.Senthil pranaveyecare
  7. There's a website here which discusses the pros and cons. There's a booklet about Lasik which you can buy which I found helpful. I hope this helps. Good luck!
  8. I went to Canada and had it done, it was $1270.00. I have no regrets whatsoever. For about 9 months I had to use expensive eyedrops, and I had star vision at night, but now I see perfect. My eyes seldom bother me, but I never wore contacts before, always glasses. I recommended the procedure to a friend and she had all kinds of complications because she wore contacts and her eyes were in rough shape because of them. If you wear contacts and are getting lasik, take them out and put them in the garbage at least 6 months before the surgery. Get rid of the contacts and let your eyes be nice and strong for the surgery. It was a weekend thing for me to go to Canada and have it done, when I went back to work on Monday I was literally crying because I could see things I never had before. Go for it.
