Lasik Eye Correction

At what age should I get lasik eye surgery?

I'm a student, early 20s. I've heard lots of positive feedback about Lasik, even my doctor says it changed her life. But how old should I get it--they say you should be older. How much older?

  1. I think min age is 21 but for more detailed advice you would need to talk to a specialist.
  2. 20's is fine. A friend of ours had it at 22, another at 25, one at 27. My husband was told he could have it even though he decided not to at 20.
  3. Why wait get it now!
  4. you should probably wait till you are around 25-30, just to be on the safe side. they are right when they say you need to be older, because your vision needs to have stopped changing altogether. also, lasik is not completely perfected yet. by the time you are 30, it most likely will have improved with the success rate. i also suggest you do some research about it, and places where you can have it done. you need to be sure about it, and where you can trust to have it done.
  5. Your eyesight will continue to change with age. You will need to have fully developed first, so at least about 18. Then consider the further environmental changes on your eyes as you move into studying in college and stuff like that. Heck, get it now, but expect to go back under the laser in 10 years.
  6. i'm a happy lasik patient, i had mine done almost 4 years ago. i absolutely recommend it to anyone that their doctor says that it's ok for you to do it!as to if you should have it done, i also am a certified optician...so i have to ask you several questions? have your eyes stopped changing or slowed down the changes in the last couple of years? are you near or far sighted? do you have any astigmatism and if so, how much? are you getting the idea that there is no simple answer to your question, go to a qualified optometrist and follow his /her advice! good luck, you're gonna LOVE your new eyes!!!!!!!!
  7. I work at a LASIK center. Minimum age is 18, but we recommend 21. We have even done patients younger than 18 as long as they had parental consent and understood the risks involved for doing surgery at a young age. I waited until I was 21 to do the surgery. I have no regrets. It was painless and my vision is excellent!
