Lasik Eye Correction

Does burrowing its face in corn litter help a kitten have eye problems and is this normal behavior?

My 12 1/2 week old kitten is constantly having irritated eyes, but it burrows its head in the corn litter on a regular basis. I think some of the bacteria in the litter is causing the eye issues but am not sure. Is it common for kittens to have irritated eyes? If anyone has had a kitten with this problem, let me know how you corrected it (both the face/litter burrowing and the eye irritation). I am using veterinary eyewash in its eyes to help. Anyone have any other ideas?

  1. I have never heard of a cat or kitten doing this maybe he is allergic to the litter try normal litter and see what happens. My Granny allways cleaned cats eyes with warm milk twice a day till they cleared and it has worked for me in the past but does not allways.Good luck
  2. I think you need to change your litter type. Some cats are allergic to grains, and if kitty is sticking her head in the litter (omg, I wonder why?) she may be having a reaction to it. Try using sawdust or cedar chips like they have for hamster cages. We've used both with wonderful success. Do you think there may be mice getting into the corn litter at night and this is what she is going after, maybe the smell of them?
  3. I think you should take the little guy to the vet to have him checked out. If you find he is burrowing in the litter make sure you clean it often. If you notice he has used it just quickly clean out the clumps and clean the box once a day until you notice his eyes are getting a little better
  4. Cat eye-problems are most common among stray cats, but just keep using the vet. eyes drops, if the problem continues just change the litter brand, and see if their is any difference within a couple of weeks, but I've had ALOT of cats and I've only had one kitten with an eye problem and it was a stray, so it's def. some kind of bacteria, maybe you should clean its litter box more often, including empting the litter box and thoroughly cleaning it out with bleach and detergent. If the problem persist def. talk to your vet. about it again.
  5. If you suspect it's the litter, why don't you change it to something else? There are a lot of different litters on the market. I don't think it's normal for a kitten to burrow into the litter. I've never had one that did.
