Does anyone know how to reduce headaches or eye problems from video games?
I received Sega Genesis Classics for PS2 for Christmas and fell in love with Phantasy Star 2. The only problem is the battle scenes with the flashing red screen. Seeing as how the battles are a big part of the game, I am disappointed to have to admit it, but I most likely will not play the game anymore. Does anyone have any advice?

- Blink every now and then. Usually, serious video gamers stop blinking because they do not want to miss a millisecond of the action. Your eyes get strained, you develop an eyeache that becomes a headache, your eyes get dry or red or both. Rest those baby blues, or budget time for the darn thing. Dont do it every day for 6 hrs a day.
- Some people are just more prone to those types of problems, In 20 years of playing video games I have never run into a game that bothered me that way, but I have some friends that play certain games for 20 minutes or so, and they get really flustered. Nothing much seems to help them. I do know of a few things that helped some of the problems. You can try wearing sunglasses when you play, it might change the flare of the light enough to ease it off of bothering you. Make sure you were well hydrated and awake when you play, I had one friend who could not play video games after say having a few beers and being out half the night, but if he played in the morning and had a glass of OJ, he was good to go for hours. Follow the manufacturers guidelines, and take a reast every 30 minutes or so and see how it goes.
- sunglasses?
- there is a chance of epileptic seizure or discomfort to 1 for every 4 players. You might be one of them. How long have you been playing before the headaches or eye problem start to occur? Is it immediate? or is it only occurs after you played the game an hour or two? If it always happen immediately when the flashing starts, then i would suggest for you to totally stop playing that game or any games that cause you discomfort such as headache, seizure, loss of sense of time, muscle or eye twitching, and/or involuntary movement. The normal procedure to reduce such problem is for you to take at least 10 to 15 minutes break per every hour you play game.
- You don't say how the headaches or eye problems come about, it's not only about the game itself. You could be playing the game for too long at each session, being too close to screen, not enough background light (makes screen more intense) perhaps you need to have your eyes checked for a vision issue (you'd have to explain the circumstance when your eyes bother you (some people need glasses just for certain tasks). There are many things that can cause this or the game could just be wrong for you....
- that ones easy, u just need to make sure your playing games with lights on, and not sitting to close to your television screen. if that dont help u can always ask your doctor. hope that helps though.
- Hook the game system up to a small screen tv. Next make sure you have lots of light. Physically while playing the game you might not realize how you are physically reacting, tensing up, not breathing in deep, All can effect blood flow to your eyes and brain causing migranes. Cut the caffiene and drink alot of water, change positions while playing the game especially the arms (as shoulder muscles tense they can cause blood flow issues) and be mindful of your breathing.
