Eye problems?
Ok i am 14 years old almost 15 and I went to the Eye Doctor yesterday for a new perscription and to get my eyes checked and she said that I have a freckle in my retina.. she stressed the fact that it was big.. she said sometimes they are cancerous but there is a small chance and she thought it looked smooth and flat so she didnt think it was cancerous. I am going to another eye doctor tommorow to see what he says then i might go to a retina specialist. has anyone ever seen this before or does any one know the possibility that it is cancer. Any one know anything else about it?

- I've worked for four retina specialists for the past seven years and I have seen this problem many times. You should see a retina specialist who has a B-Scan. A B-Scan is not painful, and it can measure the size of the freckle. It's only an ultrasound, just like the ones they do on pregnant women. Big freckles often end up being cancerous. If the size of the freckle doesn't change than it's probably not. Another test you can have done is a liver function test. All this intails is having some blood draws. Tumors of the retina are usually created by cancer in the liver. That's why liver function tests are important if your retina specialist thinks you may have a cancerous tumor in your eye. Good luck kid.
