Lasik Eye Correction

what are the risks in laser eye surgery?

  1. The worst is going blind permanently. But that happening has a probability of less than 1 per cent. :)
  2. There are lots of risks. You could go blind, which is rare. Your vision might be under-corrected or over-corrected, which means that you won't have perfect vision, even when you come out of the surgery. Then you will still need glasses or contacts, although they probably won't need to be as powerful. Also, you could get serious dry eye. Like, dry eye so bad that it is painful (so don't even consider LASIK if you suffer dry eye now). My advice: Don't get LASIK--you might be annoyed because you have to wear glasses, but risking some of the vision problems that could result is not a good idea. 3-6% of people are unsatisfied with their LASIK surgery, and you don't want to be one of them.
  3. In my opinion, the benefits of laser surgery outweighs the risks. You need to find a good surgeon - go to a couple of places for free consultations. Ask questions. The doctor will get all the measurements he needs to determine whether you are a good candidate. I had lasik sx 2 yrs ago and absolutely love it.
  4. A risk that many of us aren't willing to take.....loosing your vision! Understand the limitations and the risks of LASIK eye surgery, to help you get the best results from the procedure.
