Lasik Eye Correction

are there risks associated - possibly blindness - with Lasik eye surgery?

  1. As with ANY surgical procedure, there are ALWAYS risks associated. The worst case scenario being blindness, although the risk of that happening is a small one. I worked in a an Ophthalmologist's office where they performed LASIK, among other eye surgeries, and I can tell you that the patients who got the LASIK done were ECSTATIC with the results. They had a new lease on life and were no longer nearly physically handicapped without their prescription lenses. They brought the whole office cookies and candies and flowers and sent Thank you cards because they were SO happy with the results. I'd say that if there were to be any real risks with LASIK, it would be either that you still needed glasses after the procedure, or that you'd need an enhancement surgery. That is when they go back in again to finish up the job if the first one doesn't take or is not as successful. LASIK really is a safe procedure and I've seen many, MANY happy people who are now 20/20.
  2. With surgery theres always a risk.If its done by a professional then it wouldn't be a problem.Doing it in a back alley to save money would be a big problem.Find the best person for the job
  3. As the other responder answered there are risks to any surgery . I had Lasik surgery over 5 years ago , and had wonderful results . I can honestly say it's the best money I ever spent . No more messing with contacts , solution , glasses , etc . I have better than perfect vision even today . If you decide to do it find a reputable dr. and do your research on him or her . You don't want to go to a surgeon how transports his equipment to different locations as it can disturb the mechanics of the machine . Make sure he keeps his equipment in one location . Talk to other people who have had it , read up on as much as you can , and make a decision from there . Still today I am amazed at how sharp and clear my vision is . I'm SO glad I did it !
