Is corrective eye surgery totally safe?
Ive been weraing glasses since i was about nine, and now i'm 19. I've been thinking of getting surgery to have my eyesight corrected when i get a job after college. Are there any sort of risks involving eye surgery? Are there negative after effects?

- I had the RK surgery back in the day. That's when they did it with the knife. Now I have scarring on my eye. Laser is probably better. As with any surgery there are risks involved and side effects. I have chosen to take Vitamin A, Beta Carotene and Eyebright to heal my sight ailments.
- Any surgery in the world is not foolproof and free from side effects. If you wear glasses with very high power say 5,6 or more than it is OK because image distortion and altered distance perception due to high power glasses will be minimized. Secondly people in glamor industry go for it despite its side effects and possible failure. They make a cut to the cornnea despite the highest precision with Lazar beam, there is always a possibility of under or over correction. You may need it again and again in future. Finally Eye surgeons do it and recommend it to others but very few of them do it or get it done on themselves. That is why most eye specialists wear glasses.
- Unfortunately, as will any surgery, there is no 100% guarantee of results. In fact, when you speak to your eye surgeon, and they go over the risks and benefits, you'll always be told that there is a small, but possible chance of a loss of best corrected vision AFTER the procedure....just like how you can die after heart bypass surgery that's supposed to save your life. Nonetheless, different surgeons will have different complication rates and that's something that s/he should be willing to reveal and discuss with you. You should also look into things like a breakdown of outcomes (e.g. what % of patients are 20/20 after surgery), retreatment rates, and experience (number of cases). Goodluck
