Contacts or Lasik?
Ok so I've been wearing glasses lately and for a while I just wore them to work or when I was using a computer or watching tv. My eye sight has gotten worse and I feel like I have to wear them all the time now and it really sucks. I get head aches if I don't wear them so it really isn't an option not to wear them even though I can still see pretty decently without them. I'm far sighted and I have a stigmatism in both my eyes. I thought about getting contacts and getting lasik and I want to get lasik! I'm thinking the cost of contacts will over time end up being the same as just getting the lasik done and then I won't have the hastle of putting contacts on and off each day! Am I correct or do you think I should just put up with contacts?

- Go for Lasik, without doubt! It´s wonderful, painless and you forget about glasses, contacts, head aches... I had my eyes fixed with Lasik three years ago and I highly recommend it!
- Lasik! I wore glases and or contact lens for 30 years. With contacts I had hard lens, extended wear, daily wear etc. I have purched hundreds of bottles of soaking and rinsing solutions . As I got older I wanted nicer designer frames so would spend almost a thousand bucks on frames. Finally at 49 I said to H#L# with all this nonsense. Did my research and had lasik done. It is great. One minor thing because of my age I still have problems reading things close up like newspapers. I went to a 99cent store and bought a bunch of cheap magnifying glasses that I leave all over the house. Whatever room I am in if I need to read a label or something the cheapies are there My regular vision walking around and driving etc. is perfect. I am very happy with the results. I threw out all the solutions and mailed all the old eyeglasses to a charity. Do your homework and know your doctor !
- You should definitely consider Lasik. My sister just had it done and she wished she would have done it sooner. I hate contacts so I wear my glasses. I get away with only wearing them when I drive or basically anything where I have to see far away. I have been thinking about lasik too but I am nervous and a bit of a baby when it comes to that kind of stuff. I know at least 5 people who have had it done and everyone had great results. Think about the cost of contacts plus the cleanser and all the other things you need to buy constatly when you wear them. Plus they suck to put in every day and when you get something in your eye (i.e. dust) it is a real hassle. If you have insurance they will sometimes pay for it (mine does). Good luck and let us know what you decide!
- You can sure consider LASIK. Just be sure that you research your surgeon very carefully and have a consultation where they will do a full dilated eye exam. One question I would ask would be since you are farsighted and have astigmatism, how many procedures has he/she performed with similar prescription corrections as yours. LASIK for farsightedness and astigmatism is a little newer than LASIK for nearsightedness.
- I think you should choose the LASIK treatment. I am an eye surgeon and I dont like the contacts much. Because cornea has no vessels to feed, that is why its clear. It take the O2 from air. If you use contacs you cover it and it cant breath enough. New lenses has better O2 permeability but is it enough?????
- if u were happy with contacts now.. ur eyes wont tolerate them many years later even for one hour.plus it causes corneal aberrations and it may cause infection... and for lasik , u have to know that not every one candidate for lasik...it depends on many investigations before the surgery like corneal topography and pachymetry of the cornea... so if u dont want ur glasses go to lasik surgery if u r good candidate...
