Lasik Eye Correction

How does one perform laser eye surgery?

I've found all the tools necessary around the house and eager to try it out. I'm unsure if the patient has to be sedated, as I have seen the surgery performed on television and they were wide awake. To get the eye prepared for surgery I will first tap on the cornea with a small piece of a gumdrop (peppermint) attached to a nail file. After this though, I am pretty much lost and would love some help!
