Lasik Eye Correction

What can be done for pain from eye surgery?

My 7 year old son had eye surgery today and I was instructed to give him tylenol or motrin for pain, but 2 hours later he is saying his eyes hurt. Should I apply warm or cold compresses? I am just asking for temporary advice from people who really know what to do. I will call tomorrow to find out what to do. Thanks in advance!

  1. I would advise calling the hospital where the surgery was performed. There should be a doctor on call or they can reach your childs doctor. Eyes are far to sensitive to take anyones advice unless they are a physician. Best of luck to you!
  2. I don't think it's a good idea to put compresses on eyes that just had surgery. You should call your MD see if he can prescribe something stronger, like Tylenol II, with codein. Otherwise keep him out of light, and out of reaching(his eyes).
  3. Use a Cold Compress for it will soothe.Do NOT use warm for will to some degree make the blood thinner and after surgery that it is not desired. Does not have to be ice cold but room temperature, normal cold should be sufficient. You can also call any Emergency Room and they'll give the most accurate advice or any 24hr emergency Clinic over the phone. YOUR DOCTOR should have a No on his office phone that you can call if your son gets really bad. If there is Swelling then some ice would be very helpful for shrinks tissue-reduces the swelling but since eye surgery whtever you [place do it very gently -no heavy pressure}and definitely no rubbing the eye.Hope all will be well with your son.
  4. Rub his back especially along the spinal cord, shoulders, and neck. Lightly scratch all through the hair like you would with his head on your lap. This will have hit lots of trigger points and hopefully lightened the pain. There are more trigger points along the bones under the jaw, at the bridge of the nose and both above and below just past the center of the eye from the center out. KEEP the MD in the loop.
