I had eye surgery when i was 3, cant find paperwork, recruiter said to not worry about it. Is this ok?
I am going to MEPS next week, I had a minor eye surgery when I was 3, I cant locate the paperwork. My recruiter said not to worry it doesnt matter. I have paperwork for other surgeries and everything else is in order. i dont wear glasses or contacts, and i have great vision. I dont want to lye, but i dont want to get disqualified for not having any paperwork. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

- For something that far back, I don't think it is important. I wouldn't even mention it as you don't have any documentation on it. That one is just not that important. Thanks for serving.
- I was told anything thats older than 7 years doesn't have to belisted as long as it doesn't affect you now.
- Don't even bring it up... too long ago to worry about it... unless you're blind in that eye, lol!
- Don't sweat the small stuff. It was so long ago MEPS won't even care. If your asked point blank about something don't lie, but don't bring it up either. I think the people at MEPS would be more shocked if you were able to produce paperwork for a surgery from that long ago. There have been and will be many more people passing through that MEPS with bigger issues than this and will get through also. Answer the question as asked. Don't elaborate. If the question requires a Yes/No response, answer with a Yes or No.
- Your recruiter and the others are right - don't worry about it. Don't volunteer it, but don't lie about it. If you volunteer the info, you might find yourself in a bureaucratic mess. If the doctors ask about eye surgeries, tell them what you know. Otherwise, let them do their tests and move on. If something turns up, they'll ask about it.
- all you have to do is disclose the surgery with the notation that paperwork is not available. since most only keep records for 7 years max, it will not be held against you.
- For once when a Recruiter says "Don't worry about it" ... you actually don't have to!!! All they'll have you do is write down on one of your medical forms the basics of the surgery... when/where/why/what doctor/etc. It's always good to ask the question, though. Good luck!
